THE HAMLET OF PHILADELPHIA
No, not the Philadelphia in North America, this Philadelphia lies but 30 minutes outside of Cape Town.
Philadelphia began, as many little towns in South Africa do, as a farm.
Local farmers travelled a long way by horse and cart to Durbanville for Nagmaal (the Eucharist.)
This was until a local farmer donated a portion of his land to the local brethran to build a Church and possibly why Philadelphia, meaning Love of Brothers, is named such.
The quint, little historical Town is a perfect weekend breakaway. Dominating the town is the beautiful, large NG church with a series of little streets and wonderful restaurants and shops, including:
Droom restaurant @ Meul
Magic Minerals – Gems, Jewelry, Decor, Clothing
Karma Chameleon gift shop
The Pepper Tree restaurant
Philadelphia Bon Apetit restaurant
Philadelphia Winkel – Convenience & take-away food
Dapper se Dak (events) & BnB
